About Us
Our desire is that you sense that you belong here whether you’ve been attending church for many years or you’ve never attended church before.
Our Story
With a passion to plant healthy churches, our team had been dreaming about starting a multi-campus international church beginning in Tervuren, Belgium. Understanding that timing matters, prayerfully and patiently, our team began taking steps toward making that dream a reality. With months of prayer and preparation, on 23 January 2020, we were officially registered as a VZW (non-profit organization) with the Belgian government. We were also committed to accountability and an affirmation through our membership with the VVP and recognized under their covering with the Belgian Federal Synod in May 2020. Redefined Church is designed to welcome those from various backgrounds and those with limited or no church experience. We truly believe that our faith experience is enhanced when we journey together—through the joys, questions, doubts, life experiences and faith.
We began meeting in Tervuren in July 2021. We added a second campus in Overijse in April 2022.
Our Team

Albert Walsweer was the founding pastor of Turnhout Christian Center. He served Convoy of Hope Europe as the Chief Operating Officer for 13 years and helped start and revitalize more than 45 churches in Europe. He is the General Secretary of the Flemish Pentecostal churches and is a consultant helping churches in Flanders with crafting their church vision to achieve their God-given task. He previously served in various capacities in the Brussels Christian Center as a member of the Church Council, hosting and supporting home groups, and the Leader of the Media Ministry. Albert is married to Doreen Walsweer who remains committed investing in lives of children for the Kingdom of God. She has served in children’s ministry in Brussels Christian Center for more than 12 years in various capacities including being the children’s pastor. Albert and Doreen are blessed with two children (Victoria and Jason).

Gail and Joel have been married over 20 years and have two teenage children. Her experience living in Brussels started with a 6-month stint in 1994, which ignited a love for Brussels and a desire to return that happened in 2015. She has served in a number of roles through the years—pastor, teacher, evangelist, musician, the administrator of a private family foundation and a mom! Her violin has been a consistent passion and love, opening doors in so many venues. While she is content with a good book and a warm cup of tea, it is not unusual for her to be hosting a house full of friends, cooking up something amazing, and discussing current events or an existential challenge of our day.

Joel has been married for over 20 years to Gail, and they have two teenage children. Often you will find them hosting friends in their home, playing board/card games as a family, and laughing often! Before helping to start Redefined Church, Joel served as a pastor for 9 years in the United States, traveled for 5 years presenting the Gospel through music and drama, and from March 2015 to October 2018, he served here in Belgium with Convoy of Hope Europe, partnering with local churches and pastors as the Director of Eastern Europe. Their love for the Belgian culture and the beautiful melting pot of the Brussels area drives their desire to connect with people from all over the world.
Core Values
Centered (Christ, Bible, Spirit-Empowered) — Redefined Church is solidly committed to make followers of Christ who make followers of Christ—both Biblically solid and Spirit-Empowered. (Matthew 6:33; Hebrew 4:12; Acts 1:8; Acts 2:4, Galatians 5:16-26)
Healthy Relationships (Vertical & Horizontal) and every practice of the church is for the purpose of developing, fostering, and maintaining HEALTHY relationships. They love each other and will do whatever is necessary to protect that unity and love. (John 13:35; Acts 2:42-47; Romans 12)
Generosity (In everything; openness, friendship, resources, etc) - Generosity is what leads them—they are passionate givers and poised to be a “Yes” church—whatever the need, whether locally or globally, they find a way to say “YES!” (2 Corinthians 9)
Hospitality (Honor) —not only to guests, but to each other—every day—every way. They practice hospitality—Each person, new and old, belongs. Passionately belong. (Romans 12)
Creativity (Nimble and innovative). Redefined Church seems to be present, aware, and proactively seeking to remain vibrant and engaged on every level. Their tradition is flexibility and holding loosely to buildings, programs, events, and strategies—recognizing that “what worked last year” might not be what is needed this year. They look for ways to be creative in every aspect of church life. (Ephesians 2:10)
Multiplication is woven into their DNA. They believe that every community needs a place of healthy relationships, and generous, hospitable, creative, centered believers to “redefine” our world. (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:47)
What We Believe
How we view God, Jesus, the Bible and many significant aspects of our faith impacts how we view our world and mission. Firmly rooted in Scripture, our beliefs and core values guide the decisions of Redefined Church. The list below constitutes the most essential doctrines, understanding that it is not exhaustive in nature, leaving latitude for non-essentials. As it’s been said, “In essentials—UNITY; in non-essentials—LIBERTY; and in all things—CHARITY!”
THE BIBLE: We believe the Bible is God’s Word to all people. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. Because it was inspired by God, the Bible is truth without any mixture of error and is completely relevant to our daily lives. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 1:1; 2 Peter 1:21)
GOD: We believe the God of the Bible is the One and Only true God. He made the world and everything it it. He made man in His image and to have fellowship with Him. He depends on no other being for His existence. He exists eternally as one God in three persons – Father, Son & Holy Spirit; a mystery beyond our understanding. He is perfectly good and acts according to His own good pleasure, including the plan of salvation which is offered because of His great mercy toward us. (Genesis 1:1, 27, 31; Matthew 3:16-17; Ephesians 1:11; 1 Peter 1:3)
JESUS: We believe Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God and the Savior of mankind. He is fully God, having existed eternally with the Father and the Holy Spirit – possessing all the attributes of God. He is fully man – born of a virgin and having lived a perfect life without sin. By His death on the cross, Jesus atoned for the sin of mankind, once and for all. His life was a ransom for us, to set us free from sin. On the third day, Jesus rose from the dead, demonstrating God’s acceptance of His sacrifice for all those who would repent and believe. He ascended to heaven and will one day return. (Mark 2:5, 6:3, 10:45; Luke 2:4, 22:42; John 3:16-18, 5:19, 10:30, 12:50, 20:28; Romans 1:4, 3:25-26, 4:25, 8:21; 1 Timothy 2:6; Hebrews 4:14-16; 2 Peter 3:7-13; Revelation 21:1-22:6).
THE HOLY SPIRIT: We believe in the person and work of the Holy Spirit, the third member of the Trinity. We believe God is at work, in our world currently, through His Holy Spirit – convicting the world of sin, transforming the heart of each Christ follower, empowering for witness those who believe, and through the gifts of the Spirit given to the Church to make a difference in the world. (Ezekiel 36:25-27; John 3:5-8, 16:8; 1 Corinthians 6:11, 8:4-25, 10:44-46, 12-14; Titus 3:4-7).
THE GOSPEL: We believe man was created good (in the image of God) but voluntarily rebelled against God and stands in need of salvation. The Gospel is the “good news” that God has provided salvation for all who place faith in Jesus Christ. Our response is to turn to God, repent and orient our lives toward God, turn away from sin, believe and trust in God’s promises in Christ and commit ourselves to Him as His disciples. (Mark 1:15; Acts 11:18, 20:21, 26:20; Romans 3:21-26; 1 Corinthians 15:3; Galatians 5:17; Ephesians 2:1-10; Philippians 3:9).
COMMUNION: We believe that observing communion is a regular practice of the Church and one we participate in with an attitude of humility and gratefulness. Communion was instituted by Christ Himself and Christians are encouraged to participate in communion as a remembrance of Christ’s work on the cross. (Luke 22:14-22; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
BAPTISM: We believe in baptism in water by immersion for every believer. Water baptism represents: an outward testimony of what has happened inwardly with the experience of salvation, our dying to our old way of life and commitment to live in the resurrection power of Christ, a public confession of Jesus’ Lordship in our lives, and an obedient response to Christ’s command. We believe every born again Christian should be baptized. (Matthew 3:13-16, 28:19; Acts 2:38, 8:36-38; Romans 6:1-4; Galatians 2:20; Ephesians 4:21-24)
DIVINE HEALING: We believe that just as Jesus healed people while on earth, God heals people today. We believe that when we pray, God hears us and has the ability to answer our prayers. When we have a need, we pray for each other, knowing that He is sovereign to act in ways that align with His purpose for each of us. (Isaiah 53:4-5, Matthew 8:16-17, Mark 16:18, James 5:13-16, 1 John 5:15).
THE CHURCH: We believe that the Church is the Body of Christ and Jesus Himself is the Head. The point of our individual lives is to point to Him – to bring Him glory. The point of our existence as a corporate entity is also to point to Him – to proclaim to the world, through our love of God and each other, that God is real, His Word is true and His love is life-changing. (1 Corinthians 12:12-31; Ephesians 1:22-23; Colossians 1:18).
